bloop

/blo͞op/

noun

a mistake.

The blooop series came to be from the pressure I felt to make "serious work." These forms emerge from my time in the studio as I combine clay parts. They are playful, loud and unapologetic. Leading my work into a totally different direction; using and exploring materials I wouldn’t have otherwise. After being fired in the kiln, this small sculpture is covered in rubber, creating the "oh please touch me" surface. Each one is unique and one of a kind, completely crafted by hand by the artist. Signed on the bottom.

Approximately 4” in height. 1.5lb in weight.

The blooop mini colors are:
Klein Blue
Highlighter Yellow
Neon Pink

Artist statement:
In my studio practice, the work moves between form and function as I think about fluidity of materials, process and time. Drawing on parallels between ceramic process and my own life as an immigrant, woman, wife, mother, and educator. The obsession with succeeding, of becoming something of value, and the direct connection as I sit and shape small, clay objects. Fragile forms, resilient to time and change in hopes that the biomorphic exterior will prevent them from being thrown away; discarded as remnants of their maker. To combat this state of mind and the pressure to make “serious work”, I simply walk into the studio and make. At the end of the day, these objects emerge. They are playful, loud, unapologetic; mine. Leading my work into a totally different direction; using and exploring materials I wouldn’t have otherwise. I call them blooop or another word for mistake as I fumble through my daily chores and obligations, reminding myself that what I do is worthwhile.

FAQ

What is a tabi?

The tabi is a style of footwear with a split toe that dates back to 15th Century Japan when it was originally designed as a split-toe cotton sock to be worn with geta, or wooden sandals. Our tabi is an eco-friendly take on a time-honored classic, with all the comfort and style of a modern shoe.

Do I have to wear socks with my tabi?

We designed our tabi sneakers so that they could be worn barefoot. Our insole and lining materials have anti-microbial properties, and the insole is removable so you can throw the shoe (minus insole) into the wash to freshen them up. For those of you that cannot go without socks, we make those!

How do I take care of my tabis?

It’s super easy - just throw 'em in the washing machine! We made sure that the insole is removable and hand washable as a first line of defense when it's time to clean your tabis. After you’ve removed your insole, place your whole shoe in the wash - treat it like a sweater. Wash on delicate cycle in cold water. We recommend a gentle detergent and tumble dry on low or air dry in a warm, sunny place.

What are your tabis made out of?

The vegan tabis are either knit from recycled water bottles or polyester and elastic. The silk tabis are made with a blend of recycled polyester, viscose, and silk yarn. All of our tabis are 3d-knit.
